Water Leak in Your Paris Apartment? Emergency Plumber 24/7
Water leaks are stressful, especially in a foreign country. We arrive fast, stop the leak, make the repair, and provide full documentation in English for your insurance claim. If the leak is coming from another apartment, we help coordinate with neighbors and building management.
What to Do Right Now
Follow these steps while you wait for our plumber to arrive:
Shut off the water supply
Find the shut-off valve under the kitchen sink or in a utility closet. Turn it clockwise (right) to close. If you cannot find it, call us and we will guide you by phone.
Turn off electricity near the leak
If water is near outlets, light fixtures, or appliances, go to your breaker box and switch off the relevant circuit. Water plus electricity is extremely dangerous.
Contain the water
Place towels, buckets, or pots under the leak. If water is spreading across the floor, use towels as barriers to protect wood floors and furniture.
Take photos for insurance
Document the source of the leak, the spread of water, and any damage. This is essential for French insurance claims (degat des eaux). Then call us immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
I cannot find the stopcock. What do I do right now?
Close the nearest valve upstream of the leak: under the sink, behind the toilet, or on the pipe feeding the water heater. If there is none, put a container under the leak, move anything electrical clear, and switch off the circuit for that room at the consumer unit if water is near a socket or light. Tell us you could not isolate it so we arrive ready to work on a live leak.
Where is the main shut-off in a Paris flat?
Most often in a cupboard near the entrance door, under the kitchen sink, or in the bathroom next to the water heater. Some buildings put it on the landing or in the cellar instead, in which case you need the concierge or a co-owner with the key, so it is worth locating yours before you ever need it.
Water is coming through my ceiling. Who is responsible?
It depends on the source. A leak on the building's shared riser is the copropriété's responsibility; a leak on pipework inside a flat belongs to that flat. Ring the neighbour above first, since the shut-off that matters is in their flat, and involve the syndic if nobody answers. We can stop the damage on your side and identify the source in writing, which is what settles who pays.
Do I need to declare this to my insurance?
If water has reached a floor, a ceiling or a neighbouring flat, yes, and in France that is a dégât des eaux declaration. Photograph everything before it is cleaned up, and ask us on the day for a written note of what failed and what we did. Reconstructing it weeks later is much harder.
Can you repair it on the first visit?
Usually. Hoses, valves, joints and traps account for most leaks and are carried on the van. When a permanent fix needs a specific part, we make the installation safe and watertight on the first visit and return with the part, rather than leaving you without water.
